Hazardous Materials Awareness (#0221)
Hazardous Materials “Awareness” is the first of the courses designed to meet O.S.H.A. C.F.R. 1910.120 and N.F.P.A. 472 for the First Responder. Training for those persons, who in the course of their duties, may be the first on the scene of a Hazardous Materials Incident. This four-hour course is aimed at first responders (police, firefighters, and E.M.S.). The areas covered in the course include health and safety, detecting the presence of Hazardous Materials, the U.S. D.O.T. Emergency Response Guidebook, scene management, roles and notification responsibilities of municipal, county and state organizations. This Level I First Responder Awareness is offered to anyone who needs the annual refresher training and/or has not had initial training.
Hazardous Materials Operations (#0223)
Hazardous Materials “Operations” is the second level of Haz-Mat training and designed to meet O.S.H.A. C.F.R. 1910.120 and N.F.P.A. 472 for the First Responder. Training for those persons, who in the course of their duties, may be called upon to respond to the scene of a Hazardous Materials Incident. This eight-hour course is aimed at first responders (police, firefighters, and E.M.S.). The areas covered in the course include health and safety, detecting the presence of Hazardous Materials, chemical properties, basic decontamination, PPE selection & limitations, scene management, appropriate defensive actions, and notification responsibilities of municipal, county and state organizations.
Hazardous Materials EMS Operations (#0973)
Hazardous Materials Decontamination
This program is designed for first Receivers and will teach the necessary skills to understand your roles and responsibilities while operating as a member of your organizations Decontamination Team. Topics include: Principles of Decontamination, Operations Level Competencies, Planning, Terminology, ICS/NIMS, Threats, PPE, Respiratory Protection, Procedures, Decontamination Control and Triage, and Waste Management.
Hazardous Materials - On Scene Incident Commander
This Haz-Mat Incident Command course is designed to provide participants with an increased capability to assume the role of an Incident Commander during hazardous material response event; with specific emphasis on personnel safety and management of the HAZMAT scene.
Emergency Response to Terrorism & Weapons of Mass Destruction
This 16 hour course is designed for the responder(s) who may be responsible for initial and expanded command of incidents involving terrorism. The course is intended to build upon the students' existing skills as Incident Commanders (ICS) and practitioners of the Incident Command System (ICS), with knowledge of National Incident Management System, the National Response Framework, and terrorism.
CBRNE/WMD Awareness
This course prepares emergency personnel to respond to an incident involving a weapon of mass destruction. The course objectives are to educate the students on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive components developed to be used as weapons. The students will gain knowledge on an awareness level including signs, symptoms, dissemination devices, size up and responder actions.
CBRNE/WMD Operations
This course prepares emergency personnel to respond to an incident involving a weapon of mass destruction. The course objectives are to educate the students on emergency response and size up to a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosive incident. The students will learn responder actions, chemical hazard analysis, personal protection, detection & identification and emergency decontamination procedures.
CBRNE/WMD On Scene Incident Commander
This CBRNE/WMD Incident Command course is designed to provide participants with an increased capability to assume the role of an Incident Commander during CBRNE/WMD response event; with specific emphasis on personnel safety and management of the CBRNE/WMD scene.
WMD - Nuclear & Radiological Awareness (#2360)
Awareness level courses are designed for responders who require the skills necessary to recognize and report a potential catastrophic incident or who are likely to witness or investigate an event involving the use of hazardous and/or explosive devices.
Hazardous Materials - Spill Contain & Confinement
Response to Illicit Drug Labs
This course will cover what responders should be cautious about when confronted with what appears to be a meth lab and their hazards. What the physical properties of methamphetamine are and its effects on the human body will be covered. Other topics discussed include legality, hazmat components, the best ways for responders to remain safe and criminal issues.
EMS PPE, Transportation & Decontamination for Patients with High Consequence Pathogens (#3185)
This class is for first responders that will receive and treat patients exposed to a potential HCID or other highly hazardous material. Course includes introduction to HCIDs, hazardous substances, incident recognition and facility response protocol, physical properties of hazardous substances, the toxicology of hazardous substances and HCIDs, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection (including N95’s, Versaflos, and Hooded PAPRs), decontamination protocols, incident management, event termination and post incident procedures.
Hazardous Material Refresher
This course is designed to meet the yearly hazardous materials refresher as outline by OSHA CFR 1910.120.
Hazardous Communication / Right to Know
OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, also known as HazCom, is a federal regulation (29 CFR 1910.1200) that specifies that when hazardous chemicals are present in the workplace, employees have a right to know about the risks involved with storing and handling such substances. The Hazard Communication Standard is now aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) which is a worldwide standard
Confined Space Awareness (4 ceus)
Confined Space Awareness is another component in the Hazardous Materials Emergency Response courses being offered at the ESTC. All persons attending this course will be able to identify confined spaces and recognize their potential and related hazards. In addition, students will also learn state and federal standards for confined spaces, safety standards for entry into and working in a confined space, and be able to describe the purpose of the lockout/tagout program. This course is a prerequisite for Confined Space Operations
Confined Space Operations (8ceus)
First responders must be aware of confined space recognition and entry training to prepare for routine station assignments and emergency operations. This course will enhance the training learned in the Confined Space Awareness course and give the student an opportunity to work in a classroom and hands-on training environment. We will be utilizing the below grade training scenario and other facility training aids to simulate the situations the rescuer will experience during confined space operations. The subject material will include Confined Space Recognition, Chemical and Physical Hazard Recognition, Air Monitoring, Ventilation and Inserting, Lock-out/Tag-out and Isolation, Introduction to Trench Operations, Temperature Stress, Noise Reduction, PPE, Rescue Considerations and Rigging, case study reviews, and the regulatory standards governing confined space work. The student should be proficient in the use of S.C.B.A. and P.P.E., have a basic knowledge of ropes and knots, and be able to perform rescue duties in restricted quarters
